To all the new batch out there...CONGRATULATIONS in becoming part of the kayak racing family. :D

Some of you have made sacrifices already, but all of you are gonna make more sacrifices in the year to come. Yet you'll definitely feel the sense of satisfaction and fulfilment in joining our team cause we not only grow physically, but mentally also. Many of you may be coming into the team thinking that the worse is over, but really, its just the starting. I'm not here to intimidate you, but to prepare you to expect some obstacles along the way.

Personally for me it was and STILL ISNT smooth going while training in the team. Some of you may face parental objections, some, other commitments, and still others may start to find excuses for yourselves to not turn up for trainings. No matter what, lets all take one step at a time each day and you'll grow pretty fast not too worry.

Of course, all of us in the team are here to help you improve yourself and if you have any doubts just give us a call (I GOT FREE INCOMING :D) and we'll try our best to help you out yea?

I'll post up the sat timing tomorrow hopefully after I've confirmed it with our coach.

Till next time...
Sam

Hello team! Its 12 hours till registration tomorrow and I'm so excited for you guys :D Sadly, I cant be down to cheer you all on cause my stinky work ends at 8pm but I'll be waiting on Sunday for all the good news messages and the number of cookies you all collected alright!

Remember...
Your strokes,
Breathing,
Frequency,

For the K2s, remember to be AS ONE with each other. The person behind, flow with the front man. And for ALL OF YOU, dont look at your competitors when you're racing down. 300m is a mighty short race and you wont have time to look left or right but STRAIGHT AHEAD at the finishing line.

Cheering you from Orchard Road,
Sam :D

I got this paragraph off Adam Van Koeverden's blog and it almost moved me to tears. How true he puts it...

"Humans did not evolve in kayaks; our bodies were not designed to paddle these skinny boats around for hours a day. It is for this reason that I am most thankful for the human body's ability to adapt when stressed with hard work. Bill Bowerman coached the University of Oregon Track and Field Team for the majority of the 20th century, including well-known middle distance runner Steve Prefontaine. He described this training process succinctly with four words; stress, rest, adapt, improve. It is the fourth word with which I am most fascinated.

The more I use my paddle to pull my boat forward, the tougher my hands will get, the stronger my back will become. The more my lungs extract oxygen from the air, the more my heart pumps blood around my body; the more the enzymes in my muscles turn carbs into energy, the better my body is prepared to race my kayak for Canada this summer. It's a demanding process, and one that I'm (thankfully) lovingly addicted to. We train for months and years and race for minutes and seconds, so enjoying and embracing the process is of prime importance."

Training details

Updates from the VC...

Tomorrow's training will be swimming.

Therefore meet right OUTSIDE the pool at 10am (because 3 among us don't have matric cards)

The push-ups rule is still in effect for latecoming. As per last training, seniors and appointment holders are no exception.

To Bring: Goggles, Swimwear, Matric cards and Floats (Seniors).

You'll still be swimming even if you forgot your goggles, but it's not going to be much fun, now =/

We'll be doing up the noticeboard after swimming.  Bring your artsy spirit, because some things'll have to be drawn up and colored. Did you think everything was going to be printed? That'll be too easy.... xD

Starting from tmr, Bryan, Damien, Josh and I will be away for 2 days as we will be attending Sports Leadership Camp. As Sam is having her SIP and weiie is having his test. Randall will be taking charge of the training together with coach. I Expect everyone of you work with him and train hard instead of slacking around just because there are no one to keep an eye on you guys. Alright. See you guys soon. Train hard.

YanLing, XiuTing, Lydia, Junice
Focus on your technique and force yourself to run and swim at a steady speed.

ZhiKai, Janice, Timonthy
Focus and balance well on a K boat. Be more daring. Set a goal, for eg. to be able to paddle properly at a steady pace after these 2 days instead of tapping the watter all the time.

Randall
I'm sure you will know what to do.

BBQ
There might be a BBQ this fri at sam house. Should be evening time. I need everyone to tell randall whether you guys will be attending. Randall, Collate everything and tell sam how many people are able to make it. Only the team and coach are invited.
